| William Yeudall |
| 6th March 1860 - 12th March 1923 |
William Yeudall was born on the 6th of March 1860 at 10h 30m a.m. in Orchard Street, Galston. He
was the son of Abram Yeudall by his second marriage,
to Grace Kay.
William was married to Annie Parlane Smillie at Kilmarnock on the 17th of January 1884.
A son, Abram, was born on the 20th of August 1886 at 10 p.m., at Blair Street, Galston. William was the informant and was designated as a sawmiller.
A subsequent son, Thomas Smillie Yeudall, was born on the 17th of May 1890 at 1.30 a.m, at Blair Street, Galston. William again acted as the informant and was designated as a 'Saw Miller'.
At the time of the 1891 census, William Yeudall was married and resident at 13, Blair Street, in a house having two rooms with one or more windows.
His household consisted of:
William Yeudall, Head, Mar, 31, Sawmiller, Employer
Annie Yeudall, Wife, Mar, 31, b. Kilmaurs
Abram Yeudall, Son, 4
Grace K., Daur, 2
Thomas (K.?), Son, (10 months)
All were born in Galston apart from Annie (MS Smillie).
A further son, William, was born on the 8th of August 1893 at 11h 30m p.m., at 13, Blair Street. William senior, who had been present in the house at the time of birth, was again the informant and was designated on this occasion as a 'Sawmiller (Master)'. I am informed by Anne Duncan of Auchterarder that this son died young.
William was the informant on death certificate of his father, Abram Yeudall, in 1905.
William Yeudall, married to Annie Parlane Smillie, died on the 12th of March 1923 at 1.30 a.m., at Gargieston, Galston, aged 63. He was designated as a sawmiller (master). The cause of death was certified as sclerotic degeneration of the spinal cord. The informant was Thos S. Yeudall, of 3, Glebe Road, Galston, the son of the deceased, who had been present in the house at the time of death.
Annie Yeudall, widow of William Yeudall, timber merchant, died on the 8th of April 1939 at 5h 15m p.m., at Gargieston, Galston. She was 79 years of age. Her parents were Thomas Smillie, a sale merchant, and Annie Smillie, MS Parlane, both deceased. The cause of death was certified as senility. The informant was Thomas Smillie Yeudall, of Aldersyde, Galston, the son of the deceased, who had been present in the house at the time of death.
The above mentioned Anne Duncan was born Anne Dunlop, at Dalmellington, Ayrshire, in 1927. She is the daughter of George Dunlop and Grace Kay Yeudall, who married in 1914. George was born in 1889 and Grace was born on the 17th of May 1888, at 2.00 p.m., at Blair Street, Galston.
Grace Kay Yeudall's father is entered on her birth certificate as William Yeudall, sawmiller. Her mother is entered as Annie Yeudall, M.S. Smillie, the same couple who were married at Kilmarnock on the 17th of January 1884.
Ann Smillie was born on the 1st of October 1859, at 2.00 p.m., at Moorfield, Kilmaurs. Her father was Thomas Smillie, an 'engine keeper' who signed her birth certificate with an X mark. Her mother was Ann Smillie, M.S. Parlane.
Anne Duncan is therefore the second cousin of the present Robert Cunningham and they share one great-grandfather, Abram Yeudall.
Thomas Smillie Yeudall (born at Glebe Road, Galston, on the 27th of June 1922), another grandson of William Yeudall, is the first cousin of Anne Duncan. He was a contemporary and playmate of the present Robert Cunningham, who recalls that he had two brothers, John and William. His son, also Thomas Smillie Yeudall, was born on the 23rd of March 1950, at Ayrshire Central Hospital, Irvine, and is understood to have undertaken extensive research on the Yeudall family history.
At the time of Thomas Smillie Yeudall Jnr's birth, Thomas Smillie Yeudall Snr was a timber merchant, whose usual residence was at 36, Duke Street, Galston. The mother was Susan Murray Yeudall, M.S. Cochrane. The marriage had taken place on the 10th July 1948 at Darvel.
Thomas Smillie Yeudall Snr's father was also Thomas Smillie Yeudall, a sawmiller (master). His mother was Anne Wagstaff Yeudall, M.S. McKelvie. It may reasonably be surmised that she was a relative of John Wagstaff Pollock. This marriage took place at Galston on the 27th November 1915.
A difficulty arises with the entry 'Thomas K. Yeudall' in the 1891 census entry above. The middle initial 'K' may be an error, but this will have to be clarified.
